Siding
Wood is used as a common siding
material. Some sidings are applied over a base of
sheathing. Others are directly applied over wall studs.
Different sidings used are,

Hardboard and plywood sidings: They are manufactured
in sheet form and can be in any thicknesses and
patterns, sheet sidings are often applied directly
to wall studs, without sheathing.

Vinyl,
aluminum and steel: These siding systems look
similar to horizontal wood siding but they don't
require as much maintenance. These systems are
applied right over the top of old siding.
- Wood
shingles: It is used as a siding material for
a wide range of houses from contemporary to Victorian.
They're usually installed over solid sheathing
with a protective layer of building paper.
