As the first time homebuyers, Nick and Lindsi Barber are plowing most of their available cash into their down payment. Normally, that would be left little or no money for things such as landscaping and fencing or finishing their basement. But barbers wont be take out a clostly loan to put the finishing touches on their dream home. The couple, whose lehi home will be finished this fall, also planned to take the federal government up on its offer of a $7,500 incentive intended to boost the nation's sagging real estate market. Years of home price have put homeownership out of reach of many Utahns, especially first time buyers with low to moderate incomes and little cash. As in the other markets, the incentives will aimed to provide Utahns a boost by spurring them to buy many of the unsold new and existing homes languishing on the market.
