The 18th century Fota House was built and altered
in various stages until the end of the 19th century.
During the latter part of the last century, the
house fell into some disrepair - culminating in
the collapse of a ceiling. This closed the house
to the public for some time.
Castletown
House, Ireland's finest Palladiancountry house,
is an imposing building built in 1722 for William
Connolly, the Speaker of the Irish House of Commons.
The main block was designed by Italian architect
by Alessandro Galilei and the wings were added by
Edward Lovett Pearce in 1724.
