The
Wilton house' magnificent State Rooms are
designed by Inigo Jones. The Double Cube Room,
considered to be the finest 17th century state
room in England, was designed to display family
portraits by Van Dyck. This is the greatest
collection of paintings by the artist still
to be seen in the finest surviving 17th century
stateroom in England.
The
house is created
within the atmospheric setting of the Old Riding
School, is the interpretative centre containing
the award winning introductory film, recreated Tudor
Kitchen, Victorian Laundry.
Times Past, Times Present
exhibition including 'And Life Went On', a display
of artefacts and photographs depicting the 60th Anniversary
of D-Day and the role played by Wilton House in the
planning of Operation Overlord.
More Fabulous paintings
by Rembrandt, Brueghel and Reynolds as well as Van
Dyck line the walls of many rooms together with Roman,
Greek and Seventeenth century sculpture.
The extensive parkland
bordered by the river Nadder provides a perfect backdrop
for the Palladian bridge, Millennium Water Feature,
